LaVista Park, a sprawling 93-acre community park in the Village of Godfrey, provides a space for locals and visitors to enjoy the untouched beauty of nature. Situated just off Route 3, the park was added to the Godfrey park system in 2000, made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Great Rivers Land Trust and a state OSLAD grant. The park stands out for its significant size and the preservation of its natural state. With its distinct natural characteristics, LaVista Park is dedicated to passive use, making it a haven for those seeking tranquility and a respite from the hustle and bustle.
The park is also home to the Discovery Garden, an organic learning space for children. It serves as a conduit for teaching young minds about their food’s natural origins. The tangible interactions with the soil and the cyclic processes of Earth facilitated by the garden promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of nature among children, thus enhancing their “Earth Literacy”. This creative outdoor setting provides an alternative activity for children and cultivates a more holistic awareness of nature within the community.
Additionally, LaVista Park includes a Disc Golf course, adding another exciting recreational opportunity for visitors. Disc Golf, a game that combines elements of golf and frisbee, is a fun, low-impact sport suitable for all ages. The course at LaVista Park is set amidst its beautiful natural landscapes, making for a visually appealing and challenging game. This adds to the park’s array of offerings, making it a versatile destination for various forms of outdoor enjoyment.
